The Betty Carew Foundation in the US seeks to help reduce global poverty by providing the development resources to empower and elevate marginalized women out of poverty.

The foundation provides scholarships for students attending the Betty Carew Women’s Training Center in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The scholarships will fund a two-year vocational training in sewing and catering services for over 24 women annually. These students, after graduation, will also be provided with an entrepreneurial start-up kit to start their businesses; the kit includes a sewing machine and business tools.

The foundation will also expand into supporting US organizations in 2024 by funding organizations that assist women with professional development resources.

When we change one woman’s life, we impact a family, community, country, and the world.

The Betty Carew Foundation aims to create a sustainable non-profit business model that can be replicated to contribute to the elimination of poverty globally. This includes:

  • Providing scholarships for women 15 years and older to receive vocational training and professional development
  • Assisting young women in starting their own businesses
  • Supporting organizations and their staff with resources for student training & development
