The Betty Carew Foundation

Engage, Educate, Empower, and Elevate Women

Make A Difference Today

The Betty Carew Foundation (BCF) is a vital 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization seeking to empower marginalized women globally through educational development and entrepreneurship.

According to the United Nations (UN), 767 million people live below the poverty line globally. The UN’s number one sustainable development goal is eradicating poverty. The Obama Administration pledged that the USA would join allies to “eradicate” extreme poverty over the “next two decades” by connecting more people to the global economy and empowering women. The UN Sustainable Development Goals emphasize the need to focus on educating young women and making opportunities available to women because women continue to experience unequal access to education and skills development.

One of the organizations the BCF supports is The Betty Carew Women’s Training Center (BCWTC), a United Methodist non-profit organization in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The center works to improve the lives of young women who could not succeed in formal education due to early arranged marriages, poverty, and teenage pregnancy. The BCWTC provides vocational training and job opportunities so that these women can create better lives for themselves, their children, and their communities.
